1970年代,黑帮领袖雷坤感到自己的運氣將要變危險,派手下韦俊武、蒋光正和刘旺達(王青)前往術算家玄機子求助。玄Machine prediction reveals that the power of Kun is waning, and will be killed by his loyal followers. The next in line to take over will also be usurped by his close friends, leading to a downfall and an untimely death.
Determined to keep this prophecy a secret, Wu, Dacha, and Zheng decide to ignore it, but when Dacha drunkenly slips up, they are forced to confront the imminent danger. Wu sacrifices himself to protect the innocent, entrusting his legacy to Dacha. However, when Dacha is pursued by Zheng, he must use every resource at his disposal, including dropping a baby in the ocean who is later found and adopted by Su Li (Ma Jia Qi), to evade capture.
As time passes, Zheng becomes one of the wealthiest men in Hong Kong and continues to believe in the power of fate and numerology. Meanwhile, the child he left behind grows up as Héng Bǎo Shēn (Zhèng Huá Lán), with his aunt Su Li taking care of him. Unbeknownst to Heng, he is the son of Wu and the key figure in a centuries-old prophecy.
When Heng meets Dacha again, he discovers that Dacha has been manipulating the wind and water to protect himself. In an effort to reunite with his long-lost father's legacy, Dacha intentionally sabotages their relationship by using a game of Mahjong to drive them apart. The discord also serves to keep Method Jian Xi (Cao Xu Wēi), Wu's former student and current rival, at bay.
Unbeknownst to all parties involved, Dacha accidentally discovers that Heng is the son of Wu. Meanwhile, Zheng continues to search for Wu's child, using sword master Method as a pawn in his schemes to confirm his suspicions. As Zheng becomes more desperate to fulfill the prophecy, he turns to dark forces and black magic to try and capture Heng and claim the power he believes is rightfully his.
Can Heng outwit Zheng and escape his grasp? Will he find love with Su Li's daughter, Ming Xián (Fù Míng Cěn), who has fallen for him despite her reservations about his connection to Wu? And will the prophecy ultimately prove to be a self-fulfilling one, or can Heng defy fate and write his own destiny? The epic battle between free will and destiny rages on. Who will emerge victorious: man or fate?
