Li (interpreted by Lin Wenlong) is immersed in the captivating world of herbal research, yet he finds himself torn between his long-standing pledge to Wu Ming-yue (interpreted by Li Po-yin) and the virtuous beauty, A Zhong (played by Yeh Yi). Despite his love for A Zhong, Li remains silent, vowing to confess once he passes his imperial examination. However, fate takes a cruel twist, as he unwittingly marries Wu Ming-yue instead.
Haunted by the flaws in current medical texts, Li conceives the idea of compiling an authoritative guide – "Materia Medica Classification". Unfortunately, his blunt demeanor attracts the ire of nobility, forcing him to halt his work temporarily and embark on a dangerous journey in exile. Fortunately, he is guided by the wise Taoist master Pang Chen (played by Ma Guo-ming) throughout his perilous voyage, ultimately culminating in the completion of his magnum opus – the legendary "Materia Medica Classification".
