在文革时期，一夜之间...科研员小黄被惊诛，而其所需要的A-1燃料 mysteriously disappears, placing the protagonist, Liu Jie (played by You Yang), under intense scrutiny. Accused and on the run, Liu encounters his pursuer, Su Zhe (portrayed by Shao Wanlin), aboard a southbound train. However, fate takes an unexpected turn when Su is revealed to be in league with counter-revolutionary leader Wang Li (played by Gao Jipu Mei). Injured and left for dead, Liu's situation seems dire until kind-hearted funeral workers aid his escape at the crematorium.
In the ensuing chaos, Liu crosses paths with Wang Fengnian (Zhe Zi Xian), forming an unbreakable bond over shared hardships. Meanwhile, Liu's student Zhang Qiang (Ma Shu Chao) remains skeptical of his mentor's guilt. A twist of fate reunites Liu with his old comrade Wei Zheng, who helps him evade capture by the microtown police force. With the help of a fellow traveler, Wei Xiao Ming (Cai Ming), and his student, Liu manages to stay one step ahead... until the true culprit, Su Zhe, is finally apprehended, bringing justice to those who dared challenge the system......
