1980s, a battle of good and evil unfolds in the courtroom. Witness Balance (portrayed by Shang Liujun) stands firm against malevolent forces. During the Cultural Revolution, Balance and her fiancé, Apil Jifu (performed by Shi Xicailai), worked together at the police department. The original chief, while on a report trip to another city, was assassinated, and his materials were stolen. The new chief, Kong Zhong (performed by Yu Chunmian), entrusted Apil Jifu and Balance with the task of solving the case. During the investigation, another case involving the murder of actress Bai Lili (performed by Yuan Ya'na) and Cultural Department Head Sun Baoguo emerged. Balance and Apil Jifu were repeatedly threatened without reason, and their investigation was severely hindered. On their wedding night, Apil Jifu went alone to retrieve evidence and disappeared, causing Balance to suffer a mental breakdown.
