into the eerie and mysterious world of "The Ninth Division" – a supernatural detective drama that promises to deliver thrilling suspense reminiscent of classics like "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and "Mission: Impossible."
Produced by heavyweights such as Full House Cultural Exchange, Huawen Creative, Leketo Entertainment, and MM2 Entertainment, this Taiwanese production is set to captivate audiences on July 1st. The film's cast, including Chou Tzu-Yu, Qiu Zi, Wan Jing-Lien, and Li Yu-Chieh, have all expressed their excitement for the opportunity to be a part of this unique blend of Taiwanese entertainment and supernatural mystery.
The film's director, Wang Ding-Lian, discovered the story two years ago and initially envisioned it as a suspenseful detective narrative. However, he felt that Taiwan lacked this type of entertainment, so he aimed to create a piece that would appeal to both local and international audiences. The concept quickly garnered support from investors, including Huawen Creative, and two years later, the script was finally developed in collaboration with screenwriter Zhang Guoli.
The director chose Chou Tzu-Yu for the lead role of a stern but enigmatic detective, as he wanted to present a contrasting image. "I want to challenge Chou to step out of his comedic comfort zone and not speak Taiwanese," said the director. Chou, on the other hand, was initially hesitant about taking on the role due to its demanding nature but ultimately agreed after reading the script, as he found the story intriguing and reminiscent of classic detective characters like Toshirō Mifune in "Yojimbo."
Qiu Zi, known for his boyish good looks, also steps out of his comfort zone in this film, taking on a more serious role as a seasoned detective guiding a newcomer through the complex world of the supernatural. Despite his fear of horror films, both Qiu and the director share a desire to make this production as chilling as possible.
