Yet, the local villagers harbored a deep-seated unease towards the armed "soldiers". During his recovery at the house of sister Xiao Er (played by Tao Yumeng), squad vice-commander Li Jin (portrayed by Liu Yulang) developed a tender affection for her. Guidance officer Xu Linge (Xu Linge in the role) advised them to set aside their youthful emotions. After departing, local bully Liu Huzi sought to usurp Xiao Er. Determined and resilient, she refused his advances.
