在朝鲜时代的宫廷中，除了皇帝之外，其他人都是连死也不能自己选择。在此， palace maid Moon-hee (interpreted by Xu Yingjijie) was found hanging from a beam, and the intelligent Chun-hee (portrayed by Qiu Zhenxiji) suspects she died by assassination upon autopsy. Eager to seek justice for the wrongly deceased Moon-hee, Chun-hee embarks on an investigation, only to find that Moon-hee had given birth to a child whose whereabouts remain unknown. With no leads in sight, palace intrigue looms over everyone's hearts.
Meanwhile, the palace orders all involved parties to keep quiet about this suicide incident. The few who comply with this secret are trapped in a labyrinth of deceit, unable to discern truth from falsehood. A letter left behind by Moon-hee before her death is given to Chun-hee by Jeong-hee (portrayed by Zheng Wuhenzhen), who remains mysteriously tight-lipped about the details. As Chun-hee digs deeper, she hopes to uncover the truth, but Jeong-hee, with a hint of collusion, remains silent.
